Health, Work, and Max turns ONE!

Been a long time (again) but figured I’d post an update on the goings on of the past 3 months.

First up, I’ve managed to get my diabetes under control. Having lost 50+ pounds and maintained a relatively strict regimen of diet and exercise, the last A1C test I had put me into borderline diabetic territory. Next test isn’t until February but I’m hopeful I’ll be at a place where I’ll be able to stop taking my meds. Been a rough ride, but it was probably the kick in the butt I needed to start being more healthy. I’ve even had to buy new clothes. Twice. I hate buying clothes.

Big news on the work front. The company I’ve often referred to over the past 5+ years as “SuperSweetCo“, actually known as Jive Software, went public on December 13th (symbol: JIVE)! This was a really big and important step for Jive and it’s future. It’s been very exciting, and a number of Jive peeps were at the NASDAQ to ‘ring the bell’ and open trading that day (watch the opening ceremony). Pretty big stuff.

But more important to me personally was that today, December 26th at 8:12 AM, Max turned ONE YEAR OLD!

He’s doing really awesome. He’s on the verge of walking freely (will take a few steps at a time before toppling over, but taking more and more steps every day), eating loads, and growing like a weed. It’s really crazy to think that a year ago, right about now, we found out he’d have to have surgery on our newborn. It’s weird to think that it’s only been a year. That all the heartache of Max having to have surgery when he was only 3 days old and not being able to come home for 4 weeks, it all feels like decades ago. It feels foreign, like it didn’t really happen. I’m happy to feel this way now. Because at the time it was horrible and felt like it would go on forever. And aside from a scar (that’s fading more and more every month) Max is a perfectly healthy and happy little man, chasing our poor (but evil) cat around the house saying “act” instead of “cat” and generally being awesome.
