You see it?

So a few weeks ago when the news of Heath Leger’s death hit the interwebs, and the news of whatever oddness between he, the maid, and Mary-Kate Olsen surfaced, ABC News.com posted a photo of Heath and MK side by side. I saw the photo and immediately thought of how creepy MK looked, and how similar to someone else, though I couldn’t place it.

I saved the photo and then waited for my brain to turn over. Finally it hit me… in the photo she looked like Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Sally vs. Mary-Kate

C’mon, you see it right? CRRREEEEEEEPYYYYY

PS: I feel sick right now, might be coming down with a flu, so perhaps the above isn’t as funny as I think. Going to hop my bus home now, and then go to bed…

A Good Saturday

Last night Kelly and I had a night in. She made turkey lasagna and garlic bread, and we watched Sunshine, which I liked quite a bit.

Kelly had class today, so I slept in a bit, waking up at around 8:30am (yup, that’s sleeping in for me now, urgh). After spending a little bit of time on the computer nerding out, and discovering the band Born Ruffians (kind of an indie / folk / rock sound) and noticing how perfect their sound was for the weather outside (50 degrees and sunny) I decided to get out of the house. We had to take our car into the dealership for some under-warranty maintenance, so I scheduled a 2pm appointment, and then went down to the Bishops on Alberta for a haircut. I had an hour wait, so I walked around the neighborhood a bit. Loads of people out, which happens every day like this in the winter, people crawl out of their forced hibernation and squint their eyes at that bright orb in the sky, then wander around smiling and happy. I admit I was in good spirits too just to be out it the not freezing, not raining, not dark and cloudy weather with nothing to do for an hour.

After my haircut, I went across the street to Mash Tun for a glass of beer and some soup (the beer was their new Concordia Cream Ale which was really really good) before going out to the dealership. What was supposed to be an hour thing only took about 25 minutes and I was back on the road.

Now I’m sitting on my porch enjoying the not-freezing weather and sipping on a beer. Tonight Kelly and I meet Mr & Mrs Ghost Dog at Concordia Ale House for some food and more beer. Hooray!

Fancy work dinner thing

After work today the development team at SuperSweetCo were taken out to this fancy tapas restaurant Toro Bravo (menu here) for dinner & drinks to celebrate both the hard work by the team over the past few weeks, as well as to spend time with everybody from the team who now span several countries and were all in town for the week. The food was very good, however it was a fairly spendy spot I’m not likely to frequent (I tend to like places with simpler, less expensive fare and a good selection of beer on tap). I did have a really good time though, and the crab cake things were really fantastic. If only they had more than Pilsner Urquell on tap.

The end of another year

Happy New Year! Last night Kelly and I had a small gathering at our house (friends who, like ourselves, didn’t have plans) to snack and drink away the last few hours of 2007. My sickness has just about run it’s course so I knew I was fine to have some beers (mmmm… Smithwick’s), however after enough beer I felt fine enough to have a few cigarettes, and am paying the price for those today (‘The Sick Strikes Back’). Otherwise I left the evening relatively unscathed. Kelly, on the other hand, is a wee bit delicate this morning. 😉

One benefit to throwing a party are the leftovers, of which we have plenty. I say benefit, though it’s all fatty foods (dips, chips, sweets, etc) I don’t need, but will nevertheless eat at all day.

Here’s short summary of my 2007:

Now, on to 2008…

Christmas ‘n stuff

O' Christmas TreeMerry Christmas (and other, less religion-specific seasonal wishes)! Last night Kelly and I met my family out in Hillsboro for a Christmas Eve church service, followed by a short stop at my sis-in-laws parents place for some food at their annual open house thing. At around 9pm Kelly and I left the quiet shindig and headed up to my folks house to spend the night. After a few hours hanging out with the family (mainly my mom and my youngest brother C) Kelly and I went to bed. Since the spare room was full, we spent the night in my folks 5th-wheel trailer, a giant, apartment-sized thing that’s parked in the lower driveway.

Snow at my parents house on Christmas dayWe woke up around 8:00am, pulled on our coats and walked to the house where we got some coffee and some heavily sugared cookies in us to wake us up. After Brother T, sis-in-law, and nephew arrived we got around to opening gifts. Then, during the gift giving, it started snowing! And then, it just kept on snowing. By the time we’d finished opening gifts the ground was getting very white. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a White Christmas, and it’s very rare nowadays (compared to when I was a kid). Bonus photos: Kelly enjoying the snow, and the burning of the torn up wrapping paper and empty boxes.

Kelly and I left my parents place before dark to make sure and get on the highways before the snow got any deeper. We made it home and were unpacked by 5:30pm, early enough for me to install and play a little bit of Call of Duty 4. Pretty sweet! At around 7pm we met Snooks & L at Kennedy School for a few Christmas Day beers.

Oh, and no, I didn’t get the life-sized Cylon.
